Youth Service & Ministry Modules

St. Gabriel's Youth Service Ministry is so that the youth from our church can give back to our church and
our community through various events.

We expect 6 service ministry activities (called “Ministry Modules/M & M’s”) to be completed during the 9th Grade/Journey to Confirmation 1 year and another 6 during the 10th Grade/Journey to Confirmation 2 year.
The purpose of service ministries is to help youth learn about and connect with parish life here at St. Gabriel’s.
Their participation in a combination of spiritual and service work/activity ministries increases their sense of discipleship.
We continue to receive very positive feedback from young people about their ministry experiences.

For more information, please call the Faith Formation office at 716-668-2070.

Service Form for Activities Outside of St. Gabriel's Parish

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 1 Ministry Module equal to 1 hour of time?
No the Ministry Modules are based on the activity the young people are completing.

Why does 3 community service hours (outside of St. Gabriel's) count as 2 Ministry Modules when 3 hours at another activity only counts as 1 Ministry Module?
Most young people have to complete service hours for their high schools.  Generally when a teen submits community service hours, they have done more than 3 hours of service work. That's why the form says "a minimum of 3 service hours." Teens  may submit a Community Service Reflection Form each year.

Why does Adoration only count for 2 Ministry Modules in 1 year?
Since the purpose of Ministry Modules is to engage the young people in both service and spiritual activities, praying for 1 hour of Adoration is only allowed twice in each year. They are certainly welcome to participate in our First Friday Adorations more than 2 hours during the year, but the maximum Ministry Modules per year are 2.

Why does Ushering only count for 1/2 Ministry Module?
The young people usher at the Masses they are attending as part of their faith formation class. That is why they only receive 1/2 Ministry Module for ushering. Since the purpose of Ministry Modules is to engage the young people in both service and spiritual activities, ushering at Mass is only allowed 4 times each year for a maximum of 2 Ministry Modules each year.
